practice
I wanted to give photoshop a go. I think this is going to take time, but this are a couple of sketches that I quite liked.
(Plus, I have this weekend off! isn't it weird?)

stress, anxiety and this blog
Hello there!
Here's the thing: I really, really like the idea of having a blog (and other social media). The truth is, that recently everything has been a bit chaotic and I really haven't felt like sharing anything. I find it incredibly easy to get discouraged by things and I tend to forget about the good things that are going on in my life. So, I've come to the conclusion that this will be my last post.
My last whiny post, at least. From now on, I will try to keep this blog as a diary of the nice things that are happening in my life being this the things I would like to remember in a future. Also, this is my way to attempt spreading a bit of positiveness in to the world :D
Another factor is that I find it hard to "synchronize" instagram and the blog and Facebook (which I never use). I don't want to post the same thing everywhere and that's why sometimes I struggle juggling everything!
So, today, after not being able to sketch anything for weeks, I decided to draw this Tove Jansson portrait to commemorate her 100th birthday. Obviously Mooms wanted to be part of this. How can you say no to that face?

Kid's stuff
So, today is Children's Day in Mexico, and that made me think of all the things that I used to love back then (and I still do, to be honest). Here's a few, in a "infographic" thingy, kind of:
On the left side:
-White Rain Shampoo (coconut): Didn't care much about how good the product actually was, but damn, it smelled good!.
-Ruffles Hot Dog and Pau Pau: Who still remember "Ruffles of the world"? There was a New York edition and surprise surprise, it had hog dog flavor. It was so artificial. So good. If you live in the UK and are curious, Walkers Max Paprika taste exactly the same. Pau Pau was our mexican equivalent of Capri Sun. Yum. I also remember Flippy, too bad that didn't last long in the market :(
-Suspenders, braces, whatever you might call them where essential in my wardrobe (for some reason) but this dress was THE dress. I also used to love biker shorts. God why.
-Saddle shoes. And Glittery Jellies. And a pair of weird sneakers I had with a weird glow in the dark alien. And I think my dad was sponsored by Nike or something because since I can remember every now and then he would come back home with new Nikes (for himself and me). So Nikes were the official childhood shoe for me. But those saddle shoes!.
Right side:
-I had one of those "my first Sony" thingys and I loved it. I think my mom still has it and yes, still works!. So musically I wasn't that refined, I absolutely adored the Lion King soundtrack and Salt n Pepa "upside down". I still do.
-Ok, so I had this Barbie, and I gave her a military haircut of some sort. I shaved her head basically. I stole black electrical tape from my dad's tool box and made her a "dress" that it was supposed to be a leather dress. She was my "Rockstar Barbie". She went on tour and everything.
-Polly Pocket: Ok, my mom used to HATE them, because she used to say they were expensive and silly and too damn tiny. But that was the whole point!
-Basketball: We used to have a basketball hoop in the backyard and I used to play at school. I was the tallest girl in my class and maybe the coach thought that could come in handy, but truth be told, I sucked.
what are the things from your childhood that you remember the most?

I don't know
Yesterday I decided that I was going to have a laid back day and do absolutely nothing.
It was nice the first couple of hours, but then it got BORING. What happened next, is that I was left with a sort of "hangover" and feeling uninspired (can't find another word for that). It is hard to get back on track, now I hold a pen and can't really doodle as much as I would like to, nothing seems to come out right!
Does it happen to you? how do you bounce back? :) happy tuesday!.

magic bun
![]() |
uhm?...
For those who have straight hair and wish to have more volume/waves, the top bun might be the solution to your problem!
Twist your hair and wrap it around itself (if that makes any sense) and voila, magic bun!. Go to bed and you'll have pretty decent, subtle waves in the morning. Works best with dry hair (I've found). I would also recommend to mousse/hair spray your hair before and after.
But, why am I writing about this nonsense? I really don't have the answer to that, just felt like sharing this for some unknown reason. But, beware, this undo is addictive; it will release you from all those tedious moments in which your long hair gets in the way/face, so you might never go back to your old hair styling ways... Beware...

Books, Japanese & Moominology
I've firmly decided that I need to make more time to do things that I enjoy, and one of those things is reading. Another thing that I really want to dedicate a bit more of time is to study Japanese; I took lessons when I was very young, and I was never fluent or anything, but I could speak and read very basic things so I would like to get back to it :)
One day that I was in the local library I found this little book. Isn't it awesome?! Hopefully, this will help me to kill two birds with one stone (horrible phrase) and catch up a little!
Amazing design!
Parts of the book look like a manga , some others don't.
I received this very very awesome book as a birthday present (oh yeah, it was my birthday last week!). So, this is a great stimuli to help me pursue my lifelong interest in Moominology.

getting there...
This comic strip is taking AGES. First, the layout changed a few times because I decided to add some details. Then, I had to create/design my own font, which also took time. And I will have to make a few changes, because even though this is a personal project I don't know if this could be published one day, and since I've obviously included Moomin, and because he is not my creation, I think it's best to modify him somehow :(
I'll share a few pages. Feel free to comment/suggest anything! (I don't know why the first and third page look completely grey here, they are not grey in real life)

in the making...
I've been working on a few projects so I've been all over the place lately (went to bed at 4:30 am last night! a new record!). I am a very bad blogger, I am aware of that, but I will try harder to post things here and on Instagram more often, so this is my first attempt!
Some of the (personal) things I'm working on, include a comic/diary that it's been incredibly fun to plan and draw! the technicalities of it, on the other hand, such as paper size and editing the layout it's been a bit stressful! Hopefully I will share the first strip next week!
ok, this is a photo of me and my ghostly friends going down the stairs. Bye! :D

walking down memory lane
Card Captor Sakura brings me lots of memories. It's so lovely, everyone should watch it! (has a 8.0 IMDb score!). It just soothes me for some reason. I love the "secret no so secret" message in it that tells you to find "your courage" when things are getting tough, and that you can achieve things that you thought you couldn't.
I must confess that I have the Clow Book and Cards (not my image, though), and I was about 15 but I used to play with them... I also used to believe that I could tell the future by using them (and oddly enough, several thing did happen!...). I also must confess that I really want this but I think that I wouldn't be able to wear it lots so probably won't order it any time soon :(
I found this old drawing at my mom's, can't remember how old it is, if I used an image for reference or what, but anyway, here it is.
And this is a drawing from this morning. I am so jealous of her hair haha
And this is the ending of the first season (I think). Isn't lovely?! *_*

Jane, the fox and me
I've been feeling pretty bad recently (mentally and physically) so decided to treat myself with something I've been wanting for AGES.
When I first saw this book I was like: "oh no, this is going to be pretty similar to my fox girl story, I'm sure! :(". Fortunately enough, it wasn't :D, so I am happy that I can still work on it!. Can't believe it's been a year already since I started with this idea/project! Hopefully next year it will become a book!. Anyway, back to the main topic of this entry...
I am a sucker for Isabelle Arsenault illustrations, so when I saw the book in Waterstones I couldn't resist.
The book is really lovely. The way Isabelle Arsenault uses color (not depicted here because it's kinda part of the story, don't want to be responsible for any spoilers or anything like that!) is really clever. Also, her illustrations look so moody (in a good way) clean and nice yet effortless... I am so jealous! I really love her work. And the story is really sweet :)

This is always a good way to start the day
The book was written by Fanny Britt. I don't want to say to much about the story (don't want to ruin it for you, just in case you are planning on buying it) but let's say that it's a story about a girl who's going through a rough time and spends to much time in her head.
This reminds me when my mom used to sew. Once she even made me a yukata.

faces
I've been drawing faces (and facial expressions in general), lately. This is because I'm working on this book (I'll share some info about this on following posts) which has so many characters! it's been quite challenging because I think I fell into a comfort zone by drawing the same type of face over and over again, plus, I get discouraged easily when things don't go my way straight away, but I'm trying to change this!
Facial expressions :o as you can see

when it's cold outside...
It's nice to see what's out there; going out for a walk in the morning, take some photos, maybe get a coffee in a nice place or read a book in a quiet place. But when it's cold out there (or when you're feeling lazy) it's undeniable that staying at home with crayons (or some other respectable art supplies), coloring books (or sketchbooks) and Netflix (or a movie or the radio) sounds like a perfectly reasonable nice treat. Add biscuits and the party is on!
Wish you all a nice week!
