broken things
Apparently this blog is a good excuse to doodle something everyday (I hope). Now I depict myself with purple hair (because why the hell not) at the very moment when my big mug stopped being a mug to become a million tiny wild and free pieces of crap :(
That it's not all... people who know me well enough know that I like stars a L O T. And since I don't remember when, I wear a star necklace at all times. Sadly, yesterday the necklace broke and now I have go on a quest to find a fine silver chain to replace it. Something tells me is not going to be easy :(
In more happy news, today I made salsa. About 3 years ago (wow) I used to make salsa every week so I always had a couple of varieties in my fridge, so I figured that it might be good to continue with the tradition, so tadaa! yummy salsa in my fridge.
Now it is time for me to hit the sketchbooks and continue with my project.
Live long and prosper.

my hair is boring
I drew this thing (sorry for the colouring, Photoshop is completely new to me!) hoping it will show to you all how boring I think my hair is. Straight. Fine. Lifeless. B O R I N G.
I had really long hair and it was quite easy to curl it with a sock (tutorial here if you are curious. I personally think the cute girl in the video looks like Mr. Bean). This method proved to be effective, even when my hair usually doesn't hold curls. But then I got tired of long hair so I chopped it off (went to a proper place, though). I didn't like it, so now I am cutting my hair by myself again, but it is still so BORING that I just decided that I will let it grow about 7 cms, and during the summer I will perm it. YES. MUAHAHAHAHAAAA...
the end.

research
This is my attempt to create a more interesting post :D
So, at uni I was advised to research "darker" things in order my illustrations stop being "cute" and start being well... darker. A tutor recommended me to watch Jan Svankmajer's Alice. It creeped me out a little, but gave me a few ideas to start with this project (by the way, somehow Svankmajer's work (because I also borrowed a DVD with 5 of his short films), reminded me (just a little) of Hello Seahorse video Bestia).
I was researching more about the film and I ended up with funny taxidermy images (you know, there's a moment when you cross a line from point a to point dhsfjksd in the internet, just like in youtube, you start with "cute bunnies' videos" and end up with "how to eat your own face tutorial, step by step", ok, maybe in this case was not that extreme, it was actually kind of related) so there I was with the taxidermy research thingy, and I found Angela Singer, Sarina Brewer and Andrew Lancaster (not her actual site, sorry :( could't find it). If you are lazy enough to not click on the links this is basically what they do: Singer mixes taxidermy and "decoration" and Brewer and Lancaster mix dead animals to create a new creepy one. I got one idea or two out of this...
But as my research has to have something more that that, I am happy to share that in one of the crits I mentioned Nicoletta Ceccoli and her work was well received and kind of compared to mine in terms of the "prettiness". She gave me the hope that cute can be also interesting. So yesterday I was more excited when I visited the uni's library and happily found her book Beautiful Nightmares.
At the end of the book there's a page with all kind of random stuff which I thought It was really useful in terms of understand what kind of things Nicoletta Ceccoli is inspired with

then it's when I remembered my tumblr, which was mainly created as a space to hoard images that I found inspiring, so... yeah, same thing! (?)
I could see that I was attracted to blurry, soft toned photos. Some double exposed photographs appeared in there to. Ghostly. Lovely. (Image below taken from this Flickr)
I also using (again) Stella Im Hultberg as an inspiration.
So wish me luck with this project. I have to say that I am actually enjoying it a lot :)

you are too old to be so shy
Meanwhile, click here if you want to hear what I am listening right now. Or ignore it, but you will be missing out of a great song :)
Now I just want to take a few minutes to say goodbye to my favourite pair of tights. They were good, they were cozy, they were perfect. They kept me warm in a very harsh winter and happy in a mild one. So long, perfect pair of grey tights.
Actually, I couldn't get rid of them, so I "modified" them and now I have a pair of pajama shorts and a pair of really nice over the knee leg warmers. Long life to my lovely pair of grey tights (now perfect pajama short and cozy over the knee pair of leg warmers). He dicho.

being a kid
So, today we went to the park to play frisbee. Ok, maybe we are not great frisbee players, but it was nice to go outside, breathe some fresh air and get our hands dirty. Somehow, it reminded me when I was a kid and inside of me I was like "damn, I really miss doing this kind of stuff! oooh sweet childhood memories!". Then, at home, I found this video. Made me laugh (just make sure you watch the first one). Immediately I started to remember all those times as a kid in which I was completely horrified about "little things" and all those games I didn't play and those experiences I didn't have because I was too terrified and then I was like this. Then I decided it was ok, because now that I'm a grown up (am I?) and I'm more aware of the world and stuff, I'll just have fun without worrying about those "little things". This was one of those insightful moments in which I reaffirmed that no matter what, I will always be a kid in the inside, and I really really don't want to give up on that.
So, now I want to go and climb some trees :)

Ps: spring is almost in the air so here is a photo of one of the first little flowers I spotted blooming last year :)
